Generally found growing along mountain streams in the lower Arctic regions and south in the western half of most of the North American continent. This is a hardy plant even in exposed situations.

Description: small shrub; 50-60cm (20-24"); small blue-green leaves; new growth is covered with fine hairs; compact multi-stem form; slow growing

Conditions: full sun to part shade; natural habitat is river banks and sand bars; prune for utility; requires ample water in hot dry locations
